What’s in my travel liquids, aerosols and gels bag

So, that Japan trip I told you about in my last post? 2 weeks to go and I’m outta here! With that being said, it’s inevitable that my mind wanders off to thinking about packing more than I would like to admit, in particular my carry on luggage. Every airline has its own rules (I think I’ve read the rules for my carrier about a thousand times already), but the part I’ve been toying with the most is toiletries.

I’ve never actually been on a long haul flight before so this is a new experience for me, and a girl has gotta stay fresh, right? Even if you are going somewhere that no one will know who you are, or care how you look. I’ve done my fair share of research into this, I know that the liquids bag must be clear, and the sum of the sides can be no greater than 80cm, it must be sealable, and all contents in it must not be greater than 100ml, and everything must fit in there comfortably, no exploding toiletries is to occur while going through airport security. That’s the easy part, the hard part was narrowing down what to put in this bag.

So here is my bag in all it’s glory – completely full to the brim.

Before you think anything, I know this looks a little mad. Even I’m thinking I may be slightly crazy taking all this with me on the flight, surely I won’t use all of it. I’m actually convinced I won’t use all of it, but it’s reassuring to have just in case. As for deciding what to pack, I found it easiest to split the stuff into 3 categories –  personal hygiene, skin care and makeup (who am I kidding, I definitely won’t be using the makeup).

Let us begin with personal hygiene! The last thing I want on a long haul flight (well actually 2, I’ve got a stop-over in the middle) is to feel dirty and smelly. It simply can’t happen, so I’ve gathered a few goodies to tackle the problem.

IMG_0270So as you can see above, I’ve got myself the essentials. A mini Dove aerosol deodorant, Dettol hand sanitiser, a mini tube of Colgate toothpaste, a mini perfume (this is the only perfume I’ll be taking with me while away, it’s an eau de parfum, not an eau de toilette), and a few Libra Get Fresh wipes. These wipes are advertised and sold for, well, you know where, but I thought they would work well to freshen up anywhere, not just the lady bits.

On to skin care! Easily my favourite category because it will actually be used – plus I’ve become a complete skin care nut in the last few months.

The skin care stuff also takes up most of the space in my liquids bag, so I better make damn sure I use it! Anyway, you can see I’ve got a pretty nice selection here. I’ve got a 5 pack of Swisspers facial cleansing wipes, a mini Soap and Glory hand food cream, A small pot of good old vaseline for my lips (I don’t buy into any of those fancy lip balms, vaseline is my go to), a sample pot of Benefit’s total moisture face cream, a sample of Origins drink up 10 minute mask – just in case the urge for an in-flight facial occurs, my Keihl’s creamy eye treatment, and finally my Origins ginzing eye cream. I know what you’re thinking, why on earth does she need 2 eye creams? Rest assured, I need them. But for those wondering, one is for moisture, the other brightens and depuffs. Got it? Good. Now, let’s get on to makeup.

I just packed a few things in here, not necessarily because I’ll use them, I just like the idea that I can arrive looking better than I feel. I’ve got the Nars radiant creamy concealer in vanilla – this is a new tube I’ve kept untouched just for the occasion.  A sample of the Benefit porefessional, 2 mini Stila convertible colours in tulip and peony, the Urban Decay perversion mascara (not sure on this name, but I love the mascara), and finally Benefit gimme brow in the light/medium shade. The Stila convertible colours also have little itsy bitty mirrors on the inside which is pretty darn convenient.

Well, that’s all folks. Of course I will be taking a whole carry on bag full of other gizmos and gadgets, but I didn’t want to bore you all with the obligatory neck pillow, phone, iPod, camera, passport blah blah blah.

Until next time, and I’ll be honest, I have no idea when that will be.

xo, Nifty.
